west coast winter fest

shuttling l.a. with BKXC & The Singletrack sampler

For the first time ever Alex and I are teaming up for a duo group trip where you can come along and shred with both of us.

This will be during our next tag-team road trip “Redemption CA” where I’ll be touring Alex around California for a month or so.

We’ve got 3 days of crazy shuttled downhill runs in the mountains above Los Angeles. Full face, full on, experts only. No, you can’t ride this on a hardtail.

We're calling it West Coast Winter Fest. Chris from Mt Wilson MTB Adventures has been wanting to get something like this going for a while and the idea landed during the right time.

We’re even going to get a little fancy with the culinary cuisine, beer tasting and all.

Here’s the quick rundown:

Thursday March 14 to Sunday March 17

Make your way to Pasadena on Thursday, meet up, build bikes. Sleep in your own room for three nights, descend about 27,000 feet over three days and head home after dinner Sunday night.

full details

We will be shuttling two runs each day where you can expect 23 - 28 miles and 9000+ feet of descending and very little - if any - climbing. On-site transportation, lodging, and food are included in the package. All you have to do is get you and your bike there, Mt Wilson MTB Adventure will take care of the rest.

March 14th afternoon

You and your bike arrive. Check in with Mt Wilson MTB Adventure where we will do dinner, in-brief and get our bikes ready. Use the time to ask any last minute questions. Make sure you bring everything you need for 3 full heavy days on the bike. Do yourself a favor and make sure you have a fresh set of tires (ones with good sized knobs) and brake pads on your whip. It will be one less thing to worry about.

March 15th

7:00 AM pickup from hotel - Best Western Hotel Pasadena

7:30 AM breakfast at Fox's (https://www.foxsaltadena.com/)

9:00 AM Mt Wilson Run #1 Red Box to JPL is a 14 mile Enduro style run. We will follow the recently re-opened Gabrielino from Red Box to Switzers to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Single-Track top to bottom, all skill levels will enjoy the run whether they are charging for a personal best or taking in the gorgeous scenery reflecting on the Native population who created it. You will crisscross a stream several times - your feel will get a little wet. You'll be challenged the whole way down.

12:30 PM - Lunch @ the Barn

On the Menu: BLT Slider Smoked Pork Belly, Heirloom Tomato, Lil Gem, Ancho Aioli, Brioche Beverages: Lemonade, Iced Team, and water

Vegetarian option available upon request

2 PM Mt Wilson Run #2 Winter Creek from Mt Wilson Observatory to Arcadia is a little over 9 miles of riding and a proper 5,000' descent. Steeper and more technical than the Gabrielino, it is a local favorite. Because you ride under the forest canopy, the trail is smoother and loamy-er than most trails on the mountain. Once at Chantry, time permitting, we may add the Wintercreek Loop where we hit the lower section of Wintercreek for a second time. It is okay to skip the second lap as day two will be a big one.

5:30 PM - Dinner @ the Barn

Take this time to look after your bike. You'll also be able to upload images and video of the day.

On the Menu: Pork Ribs Braised Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Guajillo Hot Sauce

Vegetarian option available upon request

Beverages: Lemonade, Iced Team, and water

Beer Tasting: 1 of three local breweries

8:00 PM - back to hotel free time.

March 16th

7:00 AM pickup from hotel - Best Western Hotel Pasadena

7:30 AM breakfast at Fox's (https://www.foxsaltadena.com/)

9:00 AM Mt Wilson Run #1 Valley Forge to Chantry Flats - 5000' of descending, 1000' of climbing (over 3 miles) - 19 miles. We will ease into this one. The descent into Valley Forge Campground is otherworldly. You might find yourself saying - wait - I am less than an hour from LAX? After the descent into the valley floor, we will transit to West Fork where we will begin a gentle 1000' climb to Newcomb Pass. Once at Newcombs round #2 of some amazing single-track into Chantry Flats then down to the pickup location.

12:30 PM - Lunch @ the Barn

On the Menu: Papas Bravas Roasted Tomato Aioli, Salsa Verde, Herbs, Chiles Beverages: Lemonade, Iced Team, and water

2 PM Mt Wilson Run #2 Sturtevant 5000' in 9 miles. Amazing, steep, single-track top to bottom with a nice lit'le rock-garden about half-way down. You will not be disappointed. Pour yourself into the van and reflect. Today will be the biggest day of the three.

5:30 PM - Dinner @ the Barn

On the Menu: Grilled Flank Steak

Romesco Sauce, Charred Winter Vegetables (Yu Choy, Carrot, Romanesco), Dukkah, Chile Oil

Vegetarian option available upon request

On the Menu: Agua Chile Tostada

Avocado, Chiles, Cucumber

Beverages: Lemonade, Iced Team, and water

Vegetarian option available upon request

2 PM Mt Wilson Run #2 You know this run and that is why I saved it for last. I have covered this several times on BKXC. It is an incredible experience. Frontside 4700' of descending 13 miles!

After each day, but especially on the last day, make sure you run your bike through the cleaning station before you pack it up.

Dinner will be at a leisurely pace. We can use the time to compare GoPro footage and swap trail stories. Take advantage of a nice hot shower before you arrange for ride to LAX or Burbank Airports. If you can fly out of Burbank, do it, but LAX will likely have more flight options.

BOOK NOW $1,751

No refund if cancelled 14 days or less prior to start
